DOJO RULES AND PROCEDURES, AND DOJO ETIQUETTE

All students are expected to follow the Dojo Rules and Procedures and Dojo Etiquette while attending class. This information is to help promote safety and help build character and respect in each student. Please contact your Instructor if you have questions regarding the below information.

DOJO RULES AND PROCEDURES
1. No Profanity
2. No shoes are to be worn on training floor
3. No misuse of equipment
4. No wearing jewelry
5. No gum chewing in class
6. Keep toenails and fingernails trimmed
7. No leaning on the walls
7. Cleanliness of person and uniform are mandatory
8. Hair must be put up and kept out of face
9. Keep uniform clean and pressed; strings and t-shirts tucked in
10. Never show disrespect to others
11. Any student who misuses karate will be expelled immediately from the class
12. Public demonstration of karate is not permitted without the permission of the Chief Instructor
13. Never touch another student or their equipment unless instructed to do so
14. For safety reasons, all equipment, gear, uniforms, weapons, etc. must be ordered from your Instructor - no outside equipment is permitted
15. Weapons, sparring equipment, etc. must come to each class - always be prepared
16. No metal objects are to be present on/in the uniform (i.e., no safety pins allowed)
17. Do not talk in class without the Instructors permission
18. On water break, everyone is to get water and return immediately to the training floor
19. Sparring is permitted only under the supervision of a brown or Black Belt Instructor
20. Students should make it a point to arrive ten minutes early for each class
21. Students must have the permission of the Chief Instructor prior to competing in a tournament
22. Any substitute teacher will be treated as your regular Sensei
23. Students are to stand at attention whenever an Instructor is talking or showing a technique unless otherwise stated by the Instructor.
24. It is up to everyone to help keep the Dojo spotless by cleaning up after every class. Aslo, students should inquire from time to time to see if any help is needed with demonstrations, tournaments, teaching, etc.
25. Students are encouraged to ask questions and they may do so during class at the appropriate time without interrupting the Instructor.
26. If a student must withdraw from the dojo temporarily or permanently, he or she must courteously do so by letting the Chief Instructor know by letter, email, or telephone. Failure to do so could result in loss of membership and belt ranks.
27. At the end of each class, students are to file by the Instructor and shake hands/high-five while passing.
28. To promote safety, no student is allowed to spar without basic equipment such as a protective cup (males only), protective head, hand, and feet gear, and mouth guard. Additional protective gear such as shin protectors and chest protectors are recommended.
29. Students who arrive late for class are to stand at attention at the edge of the training floor until the Instructor gives them permission to join the class.
30. Students are to retrieve their attendance card from the attendance card box and have it in hand as they line up. The Instructor will collect the cards as class is called to order.
31. Students are to line up, 5 people to a line, with the highest ranked person to the far right. The highest ranked person is responsible for the orderliness of the line.


DOJO ETIQUETTE
1. Say "ooss" when entering Dojo
2. Attend each class
3. Contact your Instructor in advance if you are not able to attend class
3. Bow when entering/exiting training floor
4. Bow to Instructors
5. Bow when a Black Belt enters the Dojo or comes onto training floor
6. Refer to Black Belts as "Sensei", Mr., Mrs., Miss or Ms. (Chief Instructor is always referred to as "Sensei")
7. Stand at attention when Instructor is speaking or demonstrating
8. If sitting while Instructor is speaking, sit cross-legged with hands on knees and back straight or with legs tucked under in "aswate" position
9. The training floor is to be respected at all times - there will be no rough-housing before or after class
